Well...not exactly a huge day...they all do have 24 hours in them after all :-)...but today was pivotal. I realized last night that if I was going to get a firing of obvara done I needed to make the "goo" last night...so I did. I put it next to to the wood stove and it's developing nicely.
At the same time I thought...I could really use a saggar batch cuz the ideas for the saggar are killing me with the waiting. So I set out the bits to prep for the firing yesterday. Amon came for his weekly visit...with what we thought was a cold. Brenda drove down to Sacramento for the baby exchange yesterday. We all woke up early (the canines in the family assure us of that)...and Amon was "worse" and Brenda and I thought our eyes were itching...calls to the Drs...Amon was routed towards home and a Dr. appointment of his own. I stayed and prepped the saggar pieces (something on the order of 175 bits). Our new website went live this morning but the email is not working...so calls to the provider. Turns out Mr. Amon has a double ear infection...Brenda and I probably DO NOT have "pink eye"...and Brenda didn't think it was funny when I suggested we drive down to Sacramento this evening...she had been to Vacaville for Amon and then here for a Dental appointment and back to Roseville for the meds in case we get pinked in the eyes. I don't know about Amon...but his Grandparents at Hobnob both fell asleep after dinner. Whew, what a day.
Tomorrow starts a new project in the pottery...a throw back to 35 years ago. The forms will translate into the new glazes and patterns very nicely. Feels good to have the forms come back to me in a new way.
I'll be shooting some video of the process and then edit it all to makes some sort of sense. It will probably end up as two video segments as I will be making the forms this week and decorating them and firing them in a month or so...the second video will be the pieces from start to finish...including out of the kiln and photo shots for the catalog group. The whole thing will take at least 5 different days of shooting...wish me luck. |
