Feather Painted Bowl
This is a alternative firing technique we call "Carbon Painting." In this example we have decorated the bowl with red underglaze and fired the piece to the set the color. On a subsequent firing we remove the piece at about 1300 degrees and place and drag feather on the pots surface. The underglaze accepts the carbon differently than the clay body so the effects can be (and in this case ARE) fascinating. Before it cools we add sawdust to the inside of the pot to create a smoky/black interior. There is no glaze on this piece. It is coated with a light acrylic to make cleaning easier.
It is only suitable for dry contents and nor food.
The bowl is approximately 7 x 4 1/2 inches.
