Raku Vase #2
This raku vase is just full of color. It is thrown on a potters wheel from a heavily grogged clay (think sand) to that it can withstand the shock of going into a hot kiln and being removed from said hot kiln.
The magic happens at the pot is cooling in a can that has had the oxygen removed (mostly). That oxygen removal generally occurs when the very hot piece is place in a can with some combustible material lighting a fire that used the oxygen...the can is quickly closed when the fire is rip roaring. Pretty dramatic.
The piece is 6 x 3 1/2 inches.
