Bread Plate
This fits a small loaf of bread...thus the name. If I had thought about it too long, I would have called it a baloney plate, because it can hold a slice of that also. Thank goodness I was in a hurry for the name.
The stoneware plate is decorate in one of our scenic patterns. Each of the scenics comes out differently as I use a "loose" hand when I'm laying the chemicals onto the surface of the glaze. The process begins months before the firing when the piece is ready to be fired the first time. I use several colored slips to start the layers of color which end with the sky work. It's the opposite of water color or oil painting where the sky is painted first. The oxides that become the mountains or hills is applied on top of the dried glaze.
The pieces is food safe and works in both the dishwasher and the microwave.
It is approximately 13 1/2 x 8 inches.
