The Salad Plate
Our handmade plates are individually made fired in the kiln and then decorated with colored slips (liquid clay), followed by a second firing. Then, using syringes, and a combination of dipping and pouring glazes we develop a unique, organic feeling on the surface before the third firing.
There is a good amount of depth created by the use of so many techniques and tool to glaze the work. Even though we carefully form, glaze and fire each piece in a similar manner, wonderful variation occurs and giving unique qualities to the piece.
We make these plates with a fine grained white stoneware clay that is designed with some of the same characteristics as porcelain. The glazes and slips are all carefully designed by us in our small studio pottery which allows us to develop the surface qualities and interactions that we like to work with.
The piece is covered is a smooth satin glaze in combination with shiny highlights and microcrystaline surfaces. The glazes are safe in the dishwasher and the microwave. They are suitable for use with foods.
We completely understand the importance of a well crafted and detailed piece. We also understand that folks really do appreciate nice looking objects and we strive to make our pieces both fully functional and "easy on the eye."
Triangles are approx. 10 inches, squares style is approx. 9 inches.
These salad plates are also available as "matching sets" or "mixed sets"...email brenda@lickinflames.com if you are interesting in a set (2 or more) to discuss what you want.
Remember that because of the handmade nature of the process, some variations should be expected. The quality is always the same standard that LickinFlames is known for, but some variations in color, design element placement and decoration patterns needs to be allowed. We know you will love the piece that is shipped.
