Extra Large Square Button Finished in RAKU
Our handmade Raku buttons are made with a stoneware clay handpainted before being decorated and glazed. Raku is a technique developed in 1500 Japan to decorate pots used in tea ceremonies. The processed moved through England to the USA, where it was developed into what we use today. The process makes each a unique item. Even though we carefully fire each piece in the same manner, variation occurs and gives character to each piece.
The shank on the extra large button allows the piece to be used for bag closures, sweaters, shirts and blouses, shawls and hats. Because the piece is slightly curved, it will lay nicely against the garment.
The finished decoration on the pieces is a hallmark of LickinFlames. The button takes several weeks to dry and then the finishing can take place. After the pieces are removed from the kiln, placed in a bin to reduced the availability of oxygen to the glaze. After the pieces are cooled, each is washed, and dried. The shank is attached to finish the piece.

Remember that because of the handmade nature of the brooch, some variations should be expected. The quality is always the same standard that LickinFlames is known for, but some variations in color, design element placement and decoration patterns needs to be allowed. We know you will love the piece that is shipped.
