the crate is away...

It has been difficult to get the crate ready for the TNNA Summer Show in DC...well getting it ready was not really the issue...it has been the ability to focus beyond the shipping.

It has felt as if Brenda and I would be traveling immediately following the crate leaving (like in the day after). Not so. It's a tad over two weeks between the crate leaving and the two of us hopping on a plane (she hops on and I get dragged) and trekking out to DC.

So once I've shaken myself of the time-warp-yoke thingy...I get to be back to work. We have a new line of vases that I'm working on...old idea from 35 plus years ago with a new LickinFlames spin on them. Also working on them.

Also working on putting discontinued and miss-carded buttons up on our ETSY shop. Seems we have a bunch of buttons on cards we no longer use...some are smudged up...a few have "High Prairie Pottery" labels...and then some are no longer in production. There is only so much space on our booth to show everything we makes and some things had to go...these buttons being one of them. We have marked them down 60% from their normal pricing.

These are just a couple of examples of the pieces that were fired in the last couple of weeks. Finished Monday (after I drove up from Pasadena) and Tuesday.

I really enjoy making these small "Rockin' Diddy Plates." They don't have feet so they rock when you put things into them and take stuff out...just for fun. I enjoy making them because they are small enough that you can just move quickly through the decoration without putting so much angst and effort into the process...which I find sometimes just muddles up the whole gig.

Like more things crafty...the devil is in the finishing.

We're sharing these with our retail partners for the first time during the TNNA show next month.

It was very difficult to work in the studio today. There are too many distractions in the yard.

It was a miracle that anything was done today with Grandson Amon in the house. He is such a gas to play with. He's growing up so fast and learning so many new little things...he's only 5 months old...just about everything is new.

But things did get done and if I'm lucky I can take a few pictures tomorrow...maybe...no promises.

These two vases came out of yesterday's saggar firing...fern pattern and all. Pretty exciting kiln load. There were some very good results and the percentage of pieces I think I may rework is very small.

Once I get these finished they will be stunning...and going off to the TNNA Summer Show in DC.

huge day today

Well...not exactly a huge day...they all do have 24 hours in them after all :-)...but today was pivotal. I realized last night that if I was going to get a firing of obvara done I needed to make the "goo" last night...so I did. I put it next to to the wood stove and it's developing nicely.

At the same time I thought...I could really use a saggar batch cuz the ideas for the saggar are killing me with the waiting. So I set out the bits to prep for the firing yesterday.

Amon came for his weekly visit...with what we thought was a cold. Brenda drove down to Sacramento for the baby exchange yesterday.

We all woke up early (the canines in the family assure us of that)...and Amon was "worse" and Brenda and I thought our eyes were itching...calls to the Drs...Amon was routed towards home and a Dr. appointment of his own. I stayed and prepped the saggar pieces (something on the order of 175 bits).

Our new website went live this morning but the email is not working...so calls to the provider.

Turns out Mr. Amon has a double ear infection...Brenda and I probably DO NOT have "pink eye"...and Brenda didn't think it was funny when I suggested we drive down to Sacramento this evening...she had been to Vacaville for Amon and then here for a Dental appointment and back to Roseville for the meds in case we get pinked in the eyes.

I don't know about Amon...but his Grandparents at Hobnob both fell asleep after dinner. Whew, what a day.

Today is Mothers Day. Both of our Moms passed away a number of years ago. Still, somehow, they help us. We have fond memories of both of them. They were good to us and for us. We are very proud of them. To deepen that pride, our Grandmothers were wonderful Moms to our Mothers...and that legacy just continues down the line.

We've moved beyond the sadness of loosing our Moms and now cherish the memories.

tomorrow is a throw back...

Tomorrow starts a new project in the pottery...a throw back to 35 years ago. The forms will translate into the new glazes and patterns very nicely. Feels good to have the forms come back to me in a new way.

I'll be shooting some video of the process and then edit it all to makes some sort of sense. It will probably end up as two video segments as I will be making the forms this week and decorating them and firing them in a month or so...the second video will be the pieces from start to finish...including out of the kiln and photo shots for the catalog group. The whole thing will take at least 5 different days of shooting...wish me luck.
